Aftercare

{ IMPORTANT }

Your tattoo must stay clean to avoid any infection. To avoid this do not touch your tattoo with dirty hands or have it exposed to dirty environments or clothes. Avoid strenuous exercising where you excessively sweat for the first few days as this will cause irritation.
Do not expose your tattoo to sun/ sunbeds; sunscreen will not protect your tattoo. Being exposed to sun/ sunbeds will massively affect the outcome once your tattoo is healed. If your tattoo starts to feel itchy, do not pick/ scratch any scabs. This can affect your tattoos healing and potentially cause pieces to fall out. Naturally the tattoo becomes slightly itchy as its healing, this is normal and expected. Try applying a wet flannel to the area to relieve to urge to scratch. Do not overdo it on the moisturizing; Apply a thin layer evening and night making sure it doesn't look too dry. You can wash your tattoo daily in the shower as normal with unscented soap. However, do not bath/ shower or submerge in water as it's more prone to infection that way. It is normal for your tattoo to swell slightly; take ibuprofen to relive this. For more reasons than one, tattoos can sometimes need touch ups, if parts haven't healed as expected. It is shop policy that we provide one free touch up in this rare case.

For aftercare the moisturizer I would recommend to use is 'Palmers cocoa butter' which you can buy from savers or Superdrug for example.
Sometimes the creams made for tattooing are a little overpriced and cocoa butter does the same job.
Step by step guide for when you get home

* At your appointment, your tattoo will be wrapped in clingfilm. Keep this on for up to 4 hours after your appointment- unless of course your wrap falls off for any reason- replace it immediately.

* Before taking it off ensure your hands and surrounding areas are clean to avoid potential infection.

* Wash your tattoo gently with unscented soap, once finished lightly dab your tattoo dry or air dry to avoid irritation.
* Your tattoo will not need any moisturizer for the first day/ night. It just needs to be protected and clean.
* If you've had an early appointment, I'd recommend wrapping your tattoo again before bed and repeating the above process.

{ Do make sure you wrap at night for the first few nights. This will protect your tattoo from staining blood and ink onto your bedding or your clothes } Your tattoo will leak black ink, its normal and to be expected, your tattoo is not falling off!

Once you wake up repeat the cleaning process. In most cases, You do not need to wrap the tattoo during the day- unless you work in a dirty environment or a restaurant/ café. It is then recommended to wrap to avoid chance of infection. Wear clean and loose clothing and let your tattoo breathe throughout the day.
For another two weeks, wash the area once a day; applying a thin layer of the aftercare cream of your choice to your tattoo. Still moisturizing only once in the morning and once in the evening. Your tattoo will be fully healed after a month and following the two weeks of initial healing, you should expect to see silver skin over your tattoo.
